Tours of Tor House on Fridays & Saturdays

Tour Tor House ... climb Hawk Tower, reminiscent of ancient Irish stone towers.  Stroll through an English cottage garden rich in color, texture and fragrance.  Experience the atmosphere that inspired some of America's finest poetry.  Step back in time and follow the romance of Carmel's poet.

Docent-led tours of Tor House, Hawk Tower and the old-world gardens are conducted hourly every Friday and Saturday.  The first tour begins at 10 a.m. and the final tour at 3 p.m.  Each tour is limited to a maximum of six people.  For safety reasons, children under 12 years of age are not allowed.

The tax deductible cost is: 

$10    adults   

$5      full-time students 12 years old and older

Tour reservations should be made in advance via email at thf@torhouse.org (see note below) or through the Foundation office at 831-624-1813.  We accept checks or cash.

To allow sufficient time to confirm reservation date and time, email requests must be received at least one week in advance.  Please provide alternate dates and/or times if possible.  Reservations are only assured if you receive a confirming email.    Email requests are only processed Monday-Thursday.

For possible tour openings this week on Friday or Saturday:

Note that the Tor House Foundation office is closed Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. until Monday morning.  To find out if there are tour openings available for a current Friday or Saturday when the office is closed, you can contact the Tor House Docent Office directly after 9:30 a.m. on Friday or Saturday at 831-624-1840.  This number is available only on Fridays and Saturdays for determining if there is a tour opening on one of those days this week.  Please call the Foundation office at 831-624-1813 or email thf@torhouse.org at other times and for all other information.

The Tor House Foundation does not offer tours of Tor House and Hawk Tower Monday through Thursday or on Sundays.  The grounds are closed to the public on those days.  The docent led tours are Fridays and Saturdays only.

The house is situated on Carmel Point at 26304 Ocean View Avenue, just to the south of Carmel Village.  It faces Scenic Road and is bounded by Stewart Way and Ocean View Avenue.

Directions to Tor House from Highway 1

Traveling on Highway 1 south to Carmel, go past the Carmel exits to Rio Road and make a right-hand turn onto Rio Road.  Follow Rio Road about ½ mile past the Carmel Mission.  The second street after the Carmel Mission is Santa Lucia.  Make a left-hand turn onto Santa Lucia.  Follow Santa Lucia all the way down to the ocean until you come to Bay View Avenue and make a left-hand turn onto Bay View Avenue.  Follow Bay View Avenue three blocks to the end and make another left-hand turn onto Ocean View Avenue.  Follow Ocean View Avenue about 100 yards.  On the right side of the road, you will find Tor House at 26304 Ocean View Avenue.  You can park in the neighborhood.  Walk up the open gated driveway to Tor House.  The tours start in the Docent Office next to the garage.  The tours start promptly on the hour.  Have a great time!
