Tor House Annual Garden Party

Sunday, May 1, 2005, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

The annual Tor House Garden Party - Carmel's unique springtime celebration of poetry, flowers and history - will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2005 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

Join us Sunday May 1st when Tor House will open its doors and gardens to the public once again.

From 2:00 until 5:00 you will be able to stroll the gardens at their spring peak, climb Hawk Tower to enjoy the magnificent view of Carmel Bay and Point Lobos, and see the house and tower rooms that Robinson Jeffers and his family loved so much.

Tea and wonderful sweet and savory treats will be served in the Jeffers’ dining room, and there will be punch and more sweets and tea sandwiches available in the garden.  Jay Salter will play his bagpipes from the Tower, and violinist Jan Lord and Irish flutist Marc Rush will add their music in the garden.

This year several local businesses have generously donated items and hospitality for a benefit raffle.  Dennis and Carl Williamson, owners of Great Things Antiques on Ocean Avenue in Carmel, have given us a beautiful French walnut, turn-of-the-century beveled wall mirror, measuring 50" long by 24" high.  La Playa in Carmel is offering a night’s stay and dinner for two at their elegant Mediterranean-style hotel and garden in the heart of Carmel.  And Highlands Inn and The Inn at Spanish Bay have both contributed dinners for two at the Highlands Inn California Market and the clubhouse, Sticks, at the Inn at Spanish Bay.  Tickets for the raffle will be sold at Garden Party.

Entrance to the Garden Party is $15.00 regular admission and $10 for those 65 or older.  We accept checks or cash the day of Garden Party.  No advance reservations are necessary.  No one under 12, please.

There is no better way to taste the atmosphere of early 20th century Carmel or appreciate the poetry of Robinson Jeffers than to come to Tor House, set on the shore of an ocean and an outcropping of land that gave Jeffers constant inspiration.  Join us for the Garden Party.

Tor House is located at 26304 Ocean View Avenue, at Carmel Point.
